Choosing the bridal bouquet is one of the most exciting parts of planning a wedding! . But, do you know about the history of the bridal bouquet?. The bridal bouquet has origins deep in history. In ancient Greece and Rome, The Roman bride and groom would wear garlands around their necks to symbolizes long life and fertility. Strong smelling flowers, garlic and herbs would be worn to ward off evil spirits which were thought to be ever present and bad luck. However, this tradition has ancient roots, and believe it or not, back then, beauty was not a consideration in the wedding bouquet. The strong-smells were thought to have mystical powers and meant to keep away evil spirits.

When Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, the herbs and spices had been replaced by fresh flowers, especially marigolds. Edible flowers were still included in the bouquet. The bride would carry her arrangement as she walked down the aisle.Dill was consumed by both the bride and groom and their wedding guests during the reception, to increase desire and fertility. Different-colored flowers also had specific meanings; for example, white flowers symbolized purity, ivy meant fidelity and orange meant happiness and fertility. Lots of fertility talk in those days!

Throwing the Bridal Bouquet

This is thought to have begun in America and right now, it is usual in the UK. The bride would throw the bunch behind her, to be gotten by a single female companion and it would imply that she would be following one to wed. Just as, the man of the hour could toss his buttonhole behind him towards his single male companions, and the same could apply.

In modern days, today the flowers in the bouquet are a wonderful display of color and smell, chosen carefully by the bride to enhance the look she wishes to create. It is generally accepted that a bride chooses flowers that she likes or that match her wedding theme.
